About Zion In Babylon

Sometimes, Mormon culture reflects a dangerously sheltered, closed-minded worldview that Joseph Smith would have never embraced.  We try to shut out “the world,” citing our need to stay undefiled, separate, a peculiar and pure people.  These are good intentions, but we are sometimes overzealous, and that is when we ignore truths and insights that could otherwise edify us.  There is a lot of truth and light in the world, outside of Mormonism, that we might miss out on if we do not actively seek it out.

Joseph Smith often invited pastors from other religions to preach from his pulpit.  Remember, he taught:  “One of the grand fundamental principles of ‘Mormonism’ is to receive truth, let it come from whence it may.”

This blog, therefore, aims to highlight truths and insights found outside of Mormonism, in an attempt to combat the aforementioned “closed” worldview.

In other words, this blog intends to follow the admonition in the thirteenth Article of Faith.  Here, we will try to seek after those things that are lovely, praiseworthy, and true in the world.

“For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
